Celebrate Rocky Hill's New Baseball Field Friday September 16th
September 15, 2016
In November 2014 the town of Rocky Hill received 800k in funding from DEEP (Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) to fund a new ADA fully compliant ball field and playground. A team effort with town staff, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Government Operations, and the support of the Town Council has made the project possible.
Rocky Hill currently has 19 playing fields, which consist of football, soccer, lacrosse, softball, and baseball, none of which are designated just for children/adults with special needs. This field will allow those with special needs to be able to play in a safe, fun environment. As you may know natural turf is subject to issues with the amount of play and weather. Synthetic surfaces are ideal with children of disabilities that may be wheelchair bound or even have limited mobility. Elm Ridge Park is a perfect site and is viewed as Rocky Hill's premier park with all the amenities for the entire family!
Rocky Hill Little League will be selling sponsorship banners for the outfield fence. The money from banner sales goes to fund the Rocky Hill Little Leagues Challenger Division, which allows for mentally and physically challenged youth to be able to play baseball at no cost to the players.
The Miracle Field of Rocky Hill Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held on Friday, September 16th at 6:00 pm. (Rain date September 23rd). The event will take place at Elm Ridge Park, 376 Elm St. After the ceremony the athletes will participate in a wiffle ball game with their buddies.
All are invited to attend this special event! For more information contact Lisa Zerio, Director of Parks and Recreation - email@example.com or 860-258-7664.
